We are delighted to be hosting the Annual CADBURY CHARITY FAMILY FUN RUN AND WALK again this year so please save the date - Saturday 4th May 2019!
This event is eagerly anticipated by locals and visitors alike – and we’re always delighted to see both runners and walkers taking part. It’s a great afternoon out for individuals, couples, groups of friends, families and of course, not forgetting our four-legged friends - dogs on leads are very welcome too!
DIRECTIONS TO FURSDON (EX5 5JS)
From the M5 via Tiverton and Bickleigh – 14 miles: Take exit 27 off the motorway and follow the signs to Tiverton along a dual carriageway. From Tiverton follow the signs on the A396 to Bickleigh (about six miles) and at The Trout Inn turn sharp right and bear left onto the A3072 towards Crediton. About two miles from Bickleigh and shortly after the crossroads at The Blue Cross Kennels. Fursdon House is signposted to the left where it is about three-quarters of a mile up the lane. Pass the white gates to Fursdon House and take the next left over the cattle grid. The Car Park is at the top of the drive on the left.
From Exeter via Thorverton – 10 miles: Take the A396 towards Tiverton and after about seven miles turn left to the village of Thorverton. Turn right in the centre of the village opposite the Thorverton Arms passing the church on your left and follow the signs to Fursdon. After about a mile take the right hand fork which is signposted to Fursdon where it is about a mile further up the lane. Enter by the first gate over the cattle grid and follow instructions above.
If it’s possible to car-share to the event, we would really appreciate it, both to ease the pressure on parking and also the impact on the environment!
ON THE DAY:
Registration opens at 1.30pm at the Coach Hall, with the event starting at 2pm. The entry fee is £5 for over 16s, £2 for children (pre-school children free) and £2 per dog!
The route is approximately four miles, going through woods and fields, up and down hills and crossing some of Mid-Devon's most beautiful landscapes. If the weather permits, you will enjoy extensive views to Exmoor and Dartmoor in the distance and to the Sidmouth Gap on the south coast. We recommend that participants wear stout walking shoes, as the terrain is hilly and uneven and if it has been wet, could be a bit muddy.
Drinks will be available en route and of course, at the end, there will be our famous Cadbury tea laid out for you in the Coach Hall (for which we very much appreciate donations to cover costs).
2019 - RAISING FUNDS FOR CADBURY CHURCH
This year sees the start of a big fund-raising push for St Michael and All Angels, the lovely little church in Cadbury village. There are various plans afoot to ensure that this wonderful historical building is kept in good order for now and for the future and we are delighted to be able to help this project by allocating all Fun Run proceeds to this lovely local cause.
Please spread the word near and far! Maybe gather a group or team up with another family and set yourself a May bank weekend challenge? Or perhaps you’ll be here to beat your time from last year – in which case, good luck! This is a lovely day out (whatever the weather!) and an amazing opportunity to see some of the landscape of Mid Devon from a different perspective. The Cadbury tea has become the stuff of legend and what could be better than having an exhilarating run (or walk) in our incredible countryside, knowing that at the end, a feast of home-baked goodies await!

We very much look forward to seeing you on Saturday the 4th May!
